Abstract
Organisations explore the viability of unmanned aerial vehicles – drones – to improve the operational performance of their logistics (last-mile delivery and on-demand logistics). To guide the implementation process of drones, previous research mostly focused on technological and operational challenges. This research paper considers people’s acceptance of drones to be a crucial determinant of implementation success. To this end, we opted for a case-based approach where we interviewed stakeholders on why they trust or not trust drones for a logistic application in a port setting. We find that trust in a drone service is a multidimensional construct consisting of six dimensions that relate to the drone, the human, the human-drone interaction, the drone provider, the safety measures, and the risk embedded in the use case and shipped product.
